Centrul Ceh, in colaborare cu Goethe Institut,  prezinta miercuri, 9 februarie, filmul Nosferatu in cadrul proiectului ”No Silence, Please!”.

Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror

Un agent imobiliar german pe nume Knock, isi trimite asociatul, Hutter, la castelul contelui Orlok in Transilvania, acesta dorind sa achizitioneze o casa izolata in regiunea germana Wisbourg. Cei doi planuiesc sa ii vanda chiar casa din vecinatatea celei locuite de Hutter. In timpul cat este plecat, Hutter isi lasa inocenta sotie, Ellen, alaturi de cativa prieteni. Odata ajuns la castel, Hutter reuseste sa ii vanda contelui imobilul, dar in acelasi timp observa si simte intamplari neobisnuite, in deosebi sentimentul prezentei unei umbre intunecate in jurul contelui, chiar si in timpul zilei, cand acesta doarme.

Calin Grigoriu

Calin Grigoriu s-a nascut in 1981 la Tulcea.

NO SILENCE, PLEASE!

Eroticon, Nosferatu, Faust, Ecstasy, The Battleship Potemkin, Metropolis…
Some incredible silent films were made mainly in the 20s of the last century. In silent films the dialogue is transmitted through muted gestures, pantomime and title cards. However, in the golden era of silent movies, they have almost always featured live music, starting with the pianist. From the beginning, music was recognized as essential, contributing to the atmosphere and giving the audience vital emotional.
In the coming weeks the Czech Centre will present you with a new experience of the classics from the the beginning of cinematography. We will invite Romanian, Czech and other musicians to accompany the movies the best they can. From classics, through jazz, to electro.

Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror
Nosferatu is a German Expressionist horror film, directed by F. W. Murnau, starring Max Schreck as the vampire Count Orlok. Nosferatu was ranked twenty-first in Empire magazine’s “The 100 Best Films of World Cinema” in 2010.
Wisbourg, Germany based estate agent Knock dispatches his associate, Hutter, to Count Orlok’s castle in Transylvania as the Count wants to purchase a isolated house in Wisbourg. They plan on selling him the one across the way from Hutter’s own home. Hutter leaves his innocent wife, Ellen, with some friends while he is away. Hutter’s trek is an unusual one, with many locals not wanting to take him near the castle where strange events have been occurring. Once at the castle, Hutter does manage to sell the Count the house, but he also notices and feels unusual occurrences, primarily feeling like there is a dark shadow hanging over him, even in the daytime when the Count is unusually asleep. Hutter eventually sees the Count’s sleeping chamber in a crypt, and based on a book he has recently read, believes the Count is really a vampire or Nosferatu. While Hutter is trapped in the castle, the Count, hiding in a shipment of coffins, makes his way to Wisbourg, causing death along his way, which most attribute to the plague. Hutter himself tries to rush home to save his town and most importantly save Ellen from Nosferatu’s imminent arrival. In Wisbourg, Ellen can feel the impending darkness as Nosferatu gets closer. But she learns that a sinless woman can sacrifice herself to kill the vampire. Will Hutter be able to save Ellen either from Nosferatu and/or her self-sacrifice?

Calin Grigoriu
Calin Grigoriu was born in 1981 at Tulcea. At the age of 8, strongly affected by a Led Zeppelin disc (a russian edition containing tracks from the third and fourth album), intuitively discovers the first vibes of blues-rock guitar, the only home instrument available at that time.  His greatest regret, even today, is that he couldn’t begin his musical studies at the organ (hammond), because it did not exist back then in Tulcea during the 80s. Guided by his father, he studied guitar at the “George Georgescu” Art School, and then in the year 2000, he is admitted to the Bucharest Conservatory, in a class guided by the master Ion Mihaiescu – the teacher who shaped his music and who gave meaning and understanding to the instrument, without which (based on his own opinion), he would not have been able to tackle so many different genres. In 2006 he goes on and continues his studies with a Master’s in Chamber Music, on composer Serban Nichifor’s class. In parallel with the cult music environment, Calin Grigoriu has a vast list of collaborations and commitments starting with the year 2000, all the way to the rpesent day: theatre music composition, recording and performing sessions with pop, rock and jazz artists.
