Pentru al 3-lea an consecutiv, Leena Pasanen (YLE Facts&Culture / Finlanda) si Stefano Tealdi (Doc in Europe & Stefilm / Italia) conduc un atelier intensiv in cadrul festivalului.

ENGLISH VERSION

The special event of the day is held in NCRR (New Cinema of the Romanian Director), starting at 7 p.m. We will host a special screening of “Burma Soldier”. Jiri Sitler, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, together with the Burmese dissident Wai Hnin Pwint Thon and Eva Homolkova, the People in Need representative will talk to the audience after the screening.

For the last 50 years, the military regime in Burma has killed thousands of people and destroyed any form of democratic expression. Former soldier in the Burmese army, Myo Myint took part in the horrors of a cruel and senseless internal war, was left without a leg and without a hand, has joined the democratic movement led by Aung San Suu Kyi (winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991 ) and the military regime that he stopped believing in has thrown him in jail where he was tortured for 15 years. After much suffering, with charisma and the smile of a free man, the burmese soldier tells his incredible story with doubt that Burma will become a democratic country in the near future.

We have two great debates for today – “Defending Inglorious Heroes” and “Documenting the City”. The first one takes place at the Law University, in the Aula Magna Hall and it starts at 12 p.m. The students wll watch “William Kunstler – Disturbing the Universe” and after the screening they can talk with the famous lawyer’s daughter and one of the film’s directors – Emily Kunstler, with Georgiana Iorgulescu (executive director at the Judicial Resources Center), Thorsten Geissler (director of the Rule of Law Program South East Europe of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung) and Simina Tanasescu (professor at the Law School in the Bucharest University). The second debate starts at 1 p.m. and takes place at the National University of Cinema and Theatre Art. Alec Balasescu – anthropologist and „Platforma pentru Bucuresti” activist, Irina Zamfirescu, ActiveWatch activist for the preservation of Bucharest`s urban identity and Teodor Frolu (architect and „Platforma pentru Bucuresti” activist) will talk to those present after the “Pit Hole” documentary screening.

Also, today we start the “Write, edit your trailer and pitch: Documentaries for the European Market” workshop at One World Romania. For the 3rd consecutive year, Leena Pasanen (YLE Facts&Culture / Finland) and Stefano Tealdi (Doc in Europe & Stefilm / Italy) conduct a 2-day workshop during the festival. The Moshers are looking for constancy and normality, though with each battle they fight the happy ending is getting farther and farther. Father is a Vietnam war veteran and is fighting his silent battle with the past`s ghosts while the mother tries to moderate her family members lives, each of them showing signs of aggressiveness and abuse dominated by failure or disorder. With this pattern passing from one generation to the other, the youngest member of the family is aware of the mess around her and decided to break this pattern.
After the screening, you can have a small discussion on the film with Vintila Mihailescu (anthropologist and psycho-sociologist) and Monika Stepanova, the artistic director of One World Romania.
