Kytice (Flori salbatice) reprezinta viziunea regizorului ceh F.A. Brabec, asupra cartii “Cele 7 Balade”. In original, opera scrisa de Karel Jaromir Erben in 1853 contine 12 povesti. Unul dintre ele spune povestea unui spirit acvatic, ce rapeste femeile cazute in apa si le tine captive, transformandu-le in nevestele sale.

Nascut in nordul Boemiei, Erben a fost fascinat de pretinsele mistere, ascunse in folclorul local. El a cautat sa gaseasca o ordine impersonala in folclor, ceva care sa guverneze comportamentul uman.

Kytice (Wildflowers) is the vision of the Czech director F.A. Brabec of the book “The Seven Ballads”. The original piece of literature, written by Karel Jaromir Erben in 1853, contained twelve tales. The seven Czech fairy tales within the film are quite nightmarish. These are not fairy tales to read to children before bedtime. One of the stories concerns an underwater spirit, who takes women captive as wives, if they happen to fall in the water. Another has a girl praying for her boyfriend to return from the dead. He returns in soldier uniform and gives her the power to fly every time she denounces her religious faith. The stories teach bizarre moral lessons, and people end up paying for their bad choices.

Karel Jaromir Erben was born in the village of Miletin at the foot of the Giant Mountains, in the north of Bohemia. He was fascinated by the alleged mysteries hidden in folklore. He looked for an impersonal order in folklore, something that governs all human beaviour. As a first scholar, he recorded different variants of the material (oral tradition) and its tunes. He published a selection of Slavonic fairy tales and collected Czech fairy tales, which were only published by Vaclav Tille in 1905. Erben´s Kytice (The Garland) became an inspiration of a number of later works of art and cultural activities.
