TOMAS SEDLACEK a zguduit studiul economiei cum putini au facut-o. Criza financiara globala a facut ca relevanta economicului sa fie pusa sub semnul intrebarii. Noi perspective sunt explorate de Tomas Sedlacek in Economics of Good and Evil.

In Economics of Good and Evil Sedlacek propune o schimbare radicala a modului de a gandi economicul, punand sub semnul intrebarii perspectiva traditionala.

Putem sa facem in mod etic, tot ceea ce facem in mod tehnic?

In timpul prezentarii cartii se vor servi racoritoare.

Discutia va fi in limba engleza cu traducerea simultana in limba romana.

Un turneu international in limba engleza, cu prezenta pe scena a lui Tomas Sedlacek, a fost lansat in 2011 si se va juca si pe scena teatrului Odeon pe 27 septembrie cand va avea loc chiar premiera internationala.

Tomas Sedlacek has shaken the study of economics as few ever have. As the virtues of economics have come under attack in the aftermath of the global financial crisis, new perspectives have been explored. Tomas Sedlacek, named as one of the “5 Hot Minds in Economics” by the Yale Economic Review in 2006, quickly captured the stage with the  book Economics of Good and Evil, publised by Oxford University Press, with a forward by Vaclav Havel. Sold in over 50.000 copies, his provocative writing has achieved bestseller status by arguing a simple, almost heretical proposition: economics is ultimately about good and evil.

Sedlacek’s potential to spread  his provocative view on economics has been enhanced as his book was turned into a theatre play, inviting the audience to take part in a multi-sense experience. After five sold-out shows in the Czech National Theatre, the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs set up for the play, in English, to tour internationally.

In Economics of Good and Evil, Sedlacek radically rethinks his field, challenging our assumptions about the world. Economics is touted as a science, a value-free mathematical inquiry, but Sedlacek sees it as a cultural phenomenon, a product of our civilization. To grasp the beliefs underlying economics, he breaks out of the field’s confines and explores myths, religion, theology, philosophy, psychology, literature, and film, ranging from the epic of Gilgamesh and the Old Testament to Matrix and the consumerism of Fight Club. In his thrilling, postmodern style, he asks searching “meta-economic” questions about the very soul of economics.

The Economics of Good and Evil has also been adapted as a theater piece, which turns this  unique book into a multi-sense experience. The show has had over 70 repeats in various theaters of Czech and Slovak Republic and sold out The National Theater in Prague. An international tour, featuring Tomas Sedlacek on stage, has been launched in 2011 in English and will be staged by Odeon Theatre on September 27 in Bucharest.
