Dvorak reinventat

PRESS RELEASE

Romanian electronic music scene pays an unorthodox tribute to Antonin Dvorak

“Dvorak Remixed Listening Party” takes place this Wednesday at 7PM at the Czech Centre

Bucharest, January 30, 2012

Over 30 Romanian musicians responded to a call announced by the Czech Centre in Bucharest in December last year on the occasion of the 170th anniversary of the famous Czech composer Antonin Dvorak. The task was to remix any of the works by the composer – in any genre, any style.

The submitted remixes of classical pieces soon attracted attention of the public on internet, and the Czech Centre’s soundcloud account (www.soundcloud.com/centrulceh) registered almost 10.000 plays in just few weeks.

We thought hard how to celebrate anniversary of one of the greatest Czech composers. And taking into account our mostly young and creative public, we skipped the idea of a classical concert and decided to refresh Dvorak’s work by the remix contest”, recalls director of the Czech Centre in Bucharest, Rene Kubasek.

We also aimed at introducing Dvorak to the young generation and show that his music is by far not dead. But we never expected such an outcome”, adds Kubasek.

On Wednesday, February 1 at 19.00 the Czech Centre will wrap up the project by hosting “Dvorak Remixed Listening Party”, where it will launch a double CD containing all the remixes. The list includes both well known names on the contemporary Romanian electronic music scene, as well as emerging creative musicians.

The double CD is divided into “Rhytm” side and “Sound” side containing more experimental tracks, will be released on the Romanian independent label Local records. All the tracks are being released under the Creative Commons Licence (artists allowed its free use, sharing and copying).

The best remix, selected by a joint Czech – Romanian jury, shall receive on Wednesday from the Czech Centre a three day stay in Prague as well as beer provided by the project’s general partner, Staropramen.

At the listening party public can listen to all the tracks, accompanied by visuals made especially for each on them by VJ Cinty Ionescu. For those, who would feel like going back to the classic, the Czech Centre prepared a special chill out room where Dvorak will be played from vinyls, accompanied by vintage screenings from the beginning of cinematography. “Judging by his music, I am convinced that Dvorak would love this party” concludes Rene Kubasek.

The event is organised by the Czech Centre Bucharest. The general partner of the event is Staropramen. The other partners are CSA Czech Airlines, Local Recordas, Sambata Sonora, and Radio Romania Cultural.
