Regimul politic cubanez ramane la putere datorita unei sofisticate masinarii de propaganda, inca tolerata de popor.. Atat cehii cat si romanii au inca proaspat in minte realitatea comunismului, iar pentru cei are au trait sub un regim totalitar, aceasta situatie pare inacceptabila. ONG-ul ceh People in Need (PIN) coopereaza din 1997 cu miscarea democratica pasnica din Cuba.

PIN impreuna cu Televiziunea Nationala din Cehia au produs acest film in Cuba anului 2000. Filmul este o colectie unica compusa din marturii ale fostilor prizonieri ai lui Castro, si interviuri cu familiile actualilor prizonieri, argumentate cu ajutorul unor imagini de arhiva.

Asa cum stiti probabil, Cuba Libre este numele unui popular cocktail cubanez. Dar acesta a fost si sloganul revolutiei din 1959, care l-a adus pe Fidel Castro la putere. Revolutia a devenit simbolul unui viitor mai bun, al libertatii cubaneze, al justitiei, al sfarsitului oprimarii.
In ciuda riscurilor persecutiei, Mateo Juez picteaza un portret contemporan al totalitarismului cubanez, adevarul din spatele traseelor turistice. Iar pentru a reusi, isi ia si un ghid, pe Oswaldo Payá Sardinas, dizident, fondatorul miscarii de opozitie Christian Liberation Movement.
Ceea ce rezulta este un mozaic din multe bucatele contrastante.

Cuba is one of the last remaining examples of communism. Fidel Castro once declared that he would rather the island sank than gave up the principles of Cuban socialism.
The Cuban regime remains in power due to a sophisticated propaganda machine still tolerated by many of its people. For those who have lived under a totalitarian regime or can imagine its method of functioning, this situation is unacceptable. Czechs remember too well the reality of life under Communism, and also the value of support from abroad. The non-governmental organization People in Need began working with the democratic movement in Cuba in 1997 by supporting those peacefully fighting the regime.

The People In Need Organization and Czech Television produced this film, a unique collection of testimonies of Castro‘s former prisoners and the families of current ones, which were filmed in Cuba in autumn 2000. The interviews are augmented with archival footage from Cuban prisons.
CUBA LIBRE / YOUR GREATEST DESIRE
Cuba Libre is the name of a popular Cuban drink. It was also the slogan of the revolution that swept Fidel Castro to power in 1959. The revolution became a symbol of a better future and the desire of Cubans for freedom, justice and the end of oppression. Despite the risk of persecution, the director has painted a picture of contemporary totalitarian Cuba, which exposes the reality that lies behind the romantic notions of tourists. Oswaldo Payá Sardinas – an important dissident and the founder of the opposition Christian Liberation Movement – becomes his guide. This documentary comprises an impressive mosaic portraying a country full of contradictions from many angles.
