NEVER BEEN BETTER

Regie: Ivana Milosevicova

ENGLISH VERSION

Ten years after fleeing from war-torn Sarajevo to the Czech Republic, Ivana Milosevicova returns to her native country to ask questions about life today, and with those answers, to make a choice as to who she is and where she belongs. Her quest reveals a country that one Bosnian journalist describes as a burned down vineyard in natural recovery.
We witness a partition of politics, culture and society: the mass funeral for 640 Muslim Bosniaks; the commemoration of Serbian war victims; the self-proclaimed tough-as-stone Croatians who boast pride in their hearts and souls; and the local pubs, where spirits loosen the fiery spark of civil opinion. At every stop, history and home is redefined in song by the spirited conviction of a national. To give context to the past, Milosevicova must look to verse: I spend the night looking at the sky and I understand nothing, nothing at all.
