BAOBAB

Juraj Horvath este absolvent al Academiei de Arta, Arhitectura si Design din Praga (VSUP), sectia Ilustratie si Grafica. Tereza este absolventa a Facultatii de Litere. Inca din timpul facultatii cei doi au avut copii si s-au confruntat cu problema tipica oricarui parinte – lipsa cartilor frumoase pentru copii. Au pus bazele unei edituri dedicata copiilor in 2000 si asa s-a nascut povestea Baobab, povestea unui copac care creste si care adaposteste multe ilustratii, carti, CD-uri si evenimente facute special pentru cei mici.
Baobab publica doar 6-7 carti pe an, intr-un tiraj maxim de 1500. „Producem doar cartile care ne plac cu adevarat. In spatele fiecarei aparitii se afla sute de ore petrecute alaturi de autor in cautarea imaginii perfecte. Incercam sa publicam opere ale tuturor artistilor care ne plac, dar incercam sa nu prezentam doar ilustratii clasice. Printre cartile noastre se numara si carti de artist si proiecte ca The ABC de Smalc sau The Goat Book de Tereza Ricanova . Si prin tot ce facem incercam sa aducem un suflu nou minunatului taram al cartilor de copii.” Tereza Horvathova
Editura BAOBAB a primit premii in concursuri ca „Cea mai frumoasa carte“ (Nejkrasnejsi kniha), sau „Funda de Aur” (Zlata Stuha).

Baobab publishing house was established in 2000. Baobab is a symbol – a tree into which many things fit and which gives a lot of benefit. Juraj Horvath had finished his studies of Illustration and Graphics in the Studio of Jiri Salamoun at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (VSUP) then. Tereza has had graduated in Romance studies and had been writing. While they were still studying they had their two first children. As they realized that no one is producing quality books for children and got involved in the book industry, they came to a logical conclusion – to establish a publishing house. Since then Baobab has published many books and some CDs. Juraj overtook the leadership of the Studio of Illustration and Graphics at VŠUP four years ago. He is dealing with free graphic art and illustrating books. He is also the author of the graphic form of the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival.
Baobab publishes 6 to 7 books a year, the average impression being 1500 prints. As Tereza says, „We only produce books they really like. We spend a lot of time working with the authors on the final appearance of each book. We want to provide space to all authors and artists we like. Nevertheless, we do not present only classical illustration. We also publish author’s books and projects: The ABC by Smalc, The Goat Book by Tereza Ricanova, Baomuzikk… We are trying to bring in some fresh air in our area of work.“
The publishing house BAOBAB has regularly been awarded in both the Most beautiful book (Nejkrasnejsi kniha) and Golden ribbon (Zlata Stuha) competitions and we simply love them. We are sure you will too.
