LEGENDARII PLASTIC PEOPLE OF THE UNIVERSE PENTRU PRIMA DATA IN ROMANIA
Probabil unul dintre cele mai influente grupuri underground de pe întreaga planetă – The Plastic People of the Universe, își va susține singurul concert din București miercuri 24 septembrie, ora 21.00 la Clubul Țăranului.
The Plastic People of the Universe (PPU) este principalul reprezentant al culturii underground din Praga (1968-1989). Muzica lor a fost influențată de The Velvet Underground și Frank Zappa. Această legendară trupă avangardista sfida adesea regimul comunist și din cauza nonconformismului lor, membrii trupei au avut probleme, fiind în repetate rânduri arestați.
Nenumăratele rețineri și urmăriri penale i-au determinat pe Václav Havel și pe alți reprezentanți ai culturii pragheze să scrie, în semn de protest, Carta 77. La sugestia președintelui Havel, s-au reunit în 1977, cu ocazia aniversării a 20 de ani de la Carta 77, și au susținut concerte cu regularitate de atunci.
“Prin invitarea grupului The Plastic People of the Universe ne dorim să marcăm cea de-a 25a aniversare a evenimentelor din 1989, perioadă marcantă atât pentru istoria României, cât și a celei din Republica Cehă. Putem doar să ne închipuim cum ar fi decurs lucrurile fără cei de la The Plastic People,” a spus René Kubášek, director al Centrului Ceh din București.
Trupa va concerta în București în cadrul festivalului SOUNDCZECH, organizat anual în România de către Centrul Ceh, cu sprijinul Staropramen. Intrarea la toate evenimentele din cadrul SOUNDCZECH este gratuită.

THE LEGENDARY PLASTIC PEOPLE COME FOR THE FIRST TIME TO ROMANIA
Probably the most influential underground band in the World – The Plastic People of the Universe, will perform at a single concert in Bucharest on Wednesday, September 24 from 21.00 at Clubul Taranului.
The Plastic People of the Universe (PPU) is the foremost representative of Prague’s underground culture (1968–1989), their music being influenced by The Velvet Underground and Frank Zappa. This legendary avant-garde group went against the grain of the Communist regime and due to its non-conformism often suffered serious problems such as arrests.
It was in protest of these arrests and prosecution that led playwright Václav Havel and others to write the Charter 77. At President Havel’s suggestion, the band reunited in 1997 in honor of the 20th anniversary of Charter 77, and has performed regularly since then.
“By inviting the Plastic People we would like to mark the 25th anniversary of the 1989 events that were so important for both Romania and the Czech Republic. Who knows how the Czech modern history would look like without the Plastic People”, says René Kubášek, director of the Czech Centre Bucharest.
The band comes to Bucharest for the music festival SOUNDCZECH organised annually in Romania by the Czech Centre, with support of Staropramen. The entrance to all SOUNDCZECH concerts is free.
