Gottland este un film cross-genre bazat pe părți selectate din volumul cu același nume, besteseller internațional al scriitorului polonez Mariusz Szczygieł. Filmul oferă o privire neconvențională asupra istoriei Cehoslovaciei secolului 20. Filmul ilustrează câteva povești: parcul Letná cu cea mai mare statuie a lui Stalin, înlocuită de un panou mare cu Václav Klaus, povestea de iubire dintre actrița Lída Baarová și Joseph Goebbels, povestea lui Eduard Kirchberger, un pilot în serviciul Poliției Secrete, viziunea lui Tomáš Baťa de a asambla o linie de producție și decizia tragică a lui Zdeněk Adamec de a se jertfi ca o formă de protest împotriva stării societății.

Gottland is a cross-genre film based on selected parts of the international bestseller Gottland (European book of the year 2009) by the Polish writer Mariusz Szczygiel. Gottland provides an unconventional look at Czechoslovak 20th century history. This film consisting of short stories portrays peculiar fates – the Letná Plain with the largest statue of Stalin replaced by a huge billboard depicting Václav Klaus, the love affair between the actress Lída Baarová and Joseph Goebbels, the story of Eduard Kirchberger, a pilot/author in the services of the Czech State Security Service, Tomáš Baťa’s vision of assembly line production and the tragic decision of Zdeněk Adamec to self-immolate as a form of protest against the state of society.
