THE CARGO PROJECT – Ondrej Horak, Jan Horak, Pavel Sterec, Maria Cavina, Monika Sybolova

Proiectul Cargo isi propune sa prezinte intr-o maniera neconventionala arta ceheasca contemporana, pe plan international. Cei 15 artisti cehi selectionati in cadrul acestui proiect vor realiza proiecte site-specific in orase ca Budapesta, Bucuresti, Sofia si Moscova.

ENGLISH The aim and focus of the international “Cargo” project is to present contemporary Czech art in unconventional settings of foreign cities. The projects are site-specific and site-inspired. The artists react to the very specific urban life, the structure of the city and its cultural and social differences. The Cargo project is at the same time an interesting experience for the locals as they see a familiar space in new context.
Cargo involves about 15 Czech contemporary artists who will be distributed throughout four cities – Buda¬pest, Bucharest, Sofia and Moscow.

CARGO IN BUCHAREST

The choice of artists for this project is also notable for its span across several generations – from established Czech artists to respect¬ed artists of the younger generation and even to university students. The curators addressed artists that encompass many different artistic activities and can cope with demanding spaces.
Silvie Brodi (1979) is completing her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (AVU), where she excelled mainly in her painting skills. However her approach is also interdisciplinary, much like the one of Jana Kochankova (1979). Eva Jiricka (1979) works with subtle shifts of space – a reaction to quotidian. She is also interested in videoart, just like Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno student, Tereza Sochorova (1982). Lenka Vitkova (1975) links her visual artwork (painting, positioning painting in space) with significant curatorship activity – she provided curatorship to many enterprises and maintains a Gallery 36. Tomas Dzadon (1981) represents a pronounced group of Slovak authors living and working in the Czech Republic. His spatial interventions and installations brought him a number of awards and he is currently on abroad on a scholarship. Vladimir Skrepl (1955) is one of the best known Czech artists, who has been on the Czech art scene since the second half of the 1980’s.
Contemporary Czech videoart will also be presented in Atelier 35, as composed by AVU student Viktor Takac.
