PREZENTAREA STUDIOULUI A69
17 OCTOMBRIE / 14H00 / SALA HORIA BERNEA / MUZEUL TARANULUI ROMAN
ENGLISH VERISION
The Bucharest Architecture Biennale (BAB) represents the top architecture event in Romania. Organized since 1992 by the Union of Romanian Architects (URA), the Biennale awards the best architecture in the last two years made by Romanian architects in the country and abroad, based on criteria set by an international jury. A whole series of connected events are meant to stand out for the social and cultural value of architecture, and also for the major resource of urban economic development that architecture is.
For the last two editions, the organization of the Biennale was delegated by URA to the team of “Arhitectura” magazine (the publication of the Union, founded in 1906). BAB2004 and BAB2006 truly succeeded in bringing architecture in the public space and open for the wide international stage (exhibitions, workshops, round tables with top architects from Spain in 2004 and Japan in 2006).
A69 is one of the young emerging architectural office from the Czech Republic. Even if the architects from A69 are working in a certain economic and cultural context – the one of a former communist country – their works are of an excellent international level.
Originally established in Cheb and currently operating in Prague in particular, the studio is run by architects Boris Redcenkov, Prokop Tomasek and Jaroslav Wertig, who work in collaboration with several colleagues. Coming onto the Czech scene in 1994, the members of A69 – architekti have created many successful projects of various types and sizes. The best known of them include Sanatorium Dr. Petaka (Dr Petak’s Sanatorium) and revitalization of Anglicka Street (both projects in Frantiskovy Lazne), along with the new residential development called Villa Park Strahov in Prague. The studio is systematically involved in design work on one-family houses with characteristic features. The major project that is currently being carried out by the A69 architects aims to develop Central Park Praha. This unique residential complex introduces a housing concept that has been fully appreciated by residents of world megalopolises from New York to Paris, London and Tokyo.
A69 was nominated twice for the national selection of the Mies van der Rohe European Award and their project of Vila Lea was a Wallpaper Award Nominee 2007 in the category Best family house project 2007.
