The good and the bad news: Documentary Mondays and the Audiovisual
The good news is that there will be regular screenings of documentary movies in the Czech Center. We decided to challenge Orange Wednesdays with White-blue-red documentary Mondays. We have invited other cultural institutes and also some Romanian documentary makers to participate in this program and some have accepted, so you will be able to see in our center the most interesting documentary movies not only from the Czech Republic.
We made this decision because we believe that it is very important to create a platform for feature documentary films — a cinematic form which you rarely find in theatres and only occasionally on television. The topics are not always fun, but they pose very important questions or highlight social issues which we may know very little about.
The bad news for 2007 is that there will be no AUDIOVISUAL. We decided to take a break and let Czech artists produce more interesting audiovisual things, and then in the showbox apk following year (fingers crossed) we will bring the program back – if we don’t change our mind 🙂
Don’t be sad, there will be plenty of animation, starting with the Jiri Trnka retrospective in February, and other great programs, for example, short films.
We want to keep the ideas started in 2006 and continue discussion on ecological, social and political topics like consumer behavior, power of mass-media, strategies of manipulation. In addition, you will be able to see very private confessions and sensitive documents about life and the people around us.
I really hope you will enjoy our new program and hope to see you in the Czech Centre at some of the Documentary Mondays!
