Curby – 20 Years of Obscene Extreme (the movie)

Centrul Ceh, în parteneriat cu Axa Valaha Productions și Under the Flag, se bucura să vă prezinte un documentar unic (20 Years of Obscene Extreme – Curby) despre cea mai mare întâlnire anuală de grindcore, festivalul în aer liber Obscene Extreme Festival, care se întâmplă în fiecare vară la Trutnov, Republica Cehă. Pe lângă posibilitatea de a simți atmosfera generală a festivalului, se vor dezbate diverse alte subiecte, de la modul de a organiza în regim do-it-yourself, la veganism/ vegetarianism etc. Pentru ca totul sa fie și mai interesant, am invitat principalul organizator al festivalului Miloslav „Curby” Urbanec la București, pentru a răspunde la toate întrebările voastre despre acest mod extrem de a protesta sonor în lumea modernă.
„Factorul cheie pentru grindcore este că, fiind atât de extrem, nu este «normal»”. Pe măsură ce anii au trecut, lucrurile s-au schimbat, dar extremitatea continuă.” spune Shane Embury, liderul trupei Napalm Death și unul dintre inventatorii a ceea ce este considerat cel mai extrem gen muzical din lume. De la concertele în baruri și subsoluri, până la audiențele de mii de persoane de la Glastonbury Festival, trei decenii mai târziu, prezentat sporadic la radiouri sau televiziuni naționale, grindcore-ul s-a răspândit peste tot în lume, evoluând într-o miriadă de subgenuri și direcții, dar păstrând mereu ferocitatea initială a inventatorilor din Napalm Death, Repulsion, Brutal Truth sau Nasum. În câteva cuvinte simple, parafrazandu-l pe Jan AG de la legendara echipă belgiană Agathocles, „Grind is Protest”.

Acest proiect face parte din evenimentul Obscene Extreme Warm-up care va avea loc în perioada 5-6 martie la București, cu proiecție + Q&A la Centrul Ceh pe 5 martie și un concert de metal extrem pe 6 martie, la Quantic Club, incluzând una dintre cele mai cunoscute trupe care a participat de mai multe ori la Obscene Extreme Festival, Avulsed (Spania), împreună cu prima trupă românească care a cântat vreodată la Obscene Extreme, Necrovile, și două dintre cele mai interesante trupe brutale din zonă, death metaliștii din Debrecen Angerseed și cel mai brutal combo grindcore din București, Terror Sickness.

Evenimentul face parte din SAPTAMANA SUNETULUI, un program anual ce propune evenimente cu scopul de a iniţia publicul într-o mai bună cunoaştere a sunetului şi de a sensibiliza toţi actorii sociali asupra importanţei calităţii mediului sonor, sub egida UNESCO.

“The key factor with grindcore is that it is so extreme, it’s not ‘normal’. As the years have gone on, things have changed but extremity keeps on going.” said Shane Emury, the heartbeat of Napalm Death and one of the original inventors of what’s considered the most extreme musical genre in the world. From playing dark basement bars up to the audiences from Glastonbury Festival three decades later, and going through several broadcastings on national radios or televisions, grindcore spread like plague all over the world, evolving in a miriad of subgenres and directions, but always keeping the initial ferocity of the inventors from Napalm Death, Repulsion, Brutal Truth or Nasum. To resume it in a few simple words, as Jan AG from the Belgian legendary squad Agathocles said more than once „Grind is Protest”.

The Czech Center, in partnership with Axa Valaha Productions and Under the Flag, is glad to present you a unique documentary (20 Years of Obscene Extreme – Curby) about the biggest annual grindcore meeting, the open air Obscene Extreme Festival that takes place every July in Trutnov, Czech Republic. Besides being able to feel the general atmosphere of Obscene Extreme, various other topics are to be discussed, from the do-it-yourself way of doing things, to veganism/ vegetarianism or alternative ways of life. To make it even more interesting, we invited the main organizer of the festival Miloslav ‚Curby’ Urbanec in Bucharest to answer all your questions about this sonic way to protest the modern world.

This project is part of the Obscene Extreme Warm-up event which happens between 5-6 March in Bucharest. On 5 March, you can attend a screening + Q&A at the Czech Center, while an extreme metal concert will take place on 6 March, at Quantic Club, showcasing one of the most notorious bands that played at Obscene Extreme Festival several times, the sickos from Avulsed (Madrid, Spain), together with the very first Romanian band that ever played at Obscene Extreme, Necrovile, and two of the most interesting and brutal bands in the neighborhood, the Debrecen death metalists Angerseed and the Bucharest most brutal combo Terror Sickness.

The event is part of SAPTAMANA SUNETULUI, a yearly program of events aiming to introduce the public to a deeper understanding of sound and to raise awareness among all social actors with respect to the importance of sound quality, coordinated by UNESCO.
