Care este procesul prin care un sunet devine muzică?

În „The Sound is Innocent”, Johana Ožvold explorează universul muzicii electronice în căutarea unor noi răspunsuri la întrebări fundamentale, pe care oamenii și le-au pus de multă vreme încoace. Asemenea unui film SF, povestea este construită într-un cadru fantastic, conturat foarte clar încă de la început: o voce care se aude dintr-un ecran de televizor, uitat printre multe altele într-un soi de arhivă din viitor, unde prezentul și viitorul par să coexiste. Mai departe, filmul se desfășoară sub forma unui experiment audiovizual, ca o călătorie într-un spațiu de vis care explorează sensul, funcția și semnificația lumii sunetului electronic și experimental.

Documentarul este împărțit în cinci capitole, fiecare dedicate unui artist din domeniu. Astfel, François Bonnet (Kassel Jaeger), Steve Goodman (Kode9), Julian Rohrhuber, John Richards, Hannes Hoelzl & Alberto De Campo oferă perspective personale asupra a ceea ce a însemnat dezvoltarea tehnologiei și cum a influențat aceasta procesele creative, de la muzică până la artele vizuale și chiar viața urbană. Mai mult, ei ghidează spectatorul printr-un labirint format dintr-o multitudine de momente definitorii pentru nașterea și evoluția sunetului electronic către muzică.

How does the sound become music?

In „The Sound Is Innocent”, Johana Ožvold explores the vast universe of the electronic music, searching for rather new approaches to the fundamental matters of the music industry. Resembling in many ways a typical sci-fi movie, the story unfolds in an abstract setting that is induced from the very beginning: an eerie voice coming from a TV screen that is forgotten among many other someplace that seems to be a futuristic archive, where the present and the future oddly coexist. From that moment on, the film continues as both a visual and an audio experiment, set in a dream-like world where the meaning and function of the electronic and experimental sound are thoroughly explored.

The documentary is split into five chapters, each of them dedicated to one important artist from the industry. François Bonnet (Kassel Jaeger), Steve Goodman (Kode9), Julian Rohrhuber, John Richards, Hannes Hoelzl & Alberto De Campo give their personal perspectives on technological progress and what that meant for the artistic world, weather that is visual art, music or even public space. They guide the viewer through an incredible maze made of important moments for the beginning and the evolution of the electronic sound and the process through which it becomes music.
