Elie’s work revolves around migration, women’s rights and education. The stories she documented led her from Afghanistan, to Zimbabwe and up and down the Western Balkan migration route.

Her work has been featured in The New York Times, The Atlantic, PRI’s The World, Al Jazeera and DER SPIEGEL, among others. She has taught courses in multimedia production and photojournalism and is now collaborating with the Fuller Project for International Reporting. In 2009 she was part of a news team that became finalists for the Pulitzer Prize in Breaking News Reporting, for coverage of the Kirkwood City Hall shootings. In 2014, she co-founded the Instagram photography project Everyday Latin America, a social media community meant to give a fresh and authentic perspective of Latin America through photojournalistic documentation of our everyday lives.

During this show&tell session, Elie Gardner will offer simple technical tips for making better cell phone photos. “Even though I’m a professional photographer, lately the images I most like to take are with my cell phone. When I use this small and familiar device, I find that I only minutely affect the scene and am able to capture spontaneous moments that I might otherwise miss”, says Elie.

This show&tell session is part of The Power of Storytelling: The Festival (16-22 oct), a weeklong series of screenings, meetings, exhibits, book launches (plus the main event, the annual two-day conference) that explore the connecting and healing capabilities of stories.

The Power of Storytelling is an annual conference built around the idea that stories can change our worlds. The only one of its kind in Eastern Europe, it brings together superstar storytellers in all fields – from media, to arts, to business – to show the potential of stories to connect people, to heal wounds, to move to action, and to drive change.

Munca ei a apărut în The New York Times, Der Spiegel, Foreign Affairs, The Atlantic, National Geographic Traveler și Al Jazeera.
